Edwin Fritz, KIA 80 years ago
On this day in 1945, Edwin Fritz was KIA in Germany.
Edwin Fritz was born on March 1, 1926 in Klacking Creek, Ogemaw County in Michigan in the US.
Edwin was a Private First Class in Company B of the 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.
He was killed in action on this day in 1945. According to his IDPF he was killed near Hildesheim, but according to the morning reports the company suffered casualties while advancing on the town of Bornecke where they came under heavy mortar fire. His body was positively identified by 1/Lt Thomas Edwards on April 13, 1945. His body was brought in by 2/Lt Wolin.
I adopted the grave of Edwin Fritz back in July 2013. He rests at the Netherlands American cemetery in Margraten.
