Kenneth E. Lebl, KIA on D-Day
On this day 81 years ago, many Allied troops started the big invasion on the European mainland. One of them was Kenneth E. Lebl. He and his comrades of his B-24 "Moby Dick" were returning from bombing the French town of Lisieux.
The sky was cloudy and the bombers had to return with their bombs. When they were flying over the Channel, "Moby Dick" collided with the "No Love No Nothin", both planes disappeared in the overcast and crashed into sea.
All crew members of "Moby Dick" died in the crash, 9 of the "No Love No Nothin" died in the crash, 1 became a POW.
Kenneth Lebl is mentioned on the Tablets of the Missing at the Saint-James American cemetery in France, along with his comrades. Their bodies were never retrieved.
Kenneth Lebl is one of my adoption grave soldiers.
Lest we forget!
